How to apply

We recommend that you read the text on this page before you begin an application.

What Is Supported by seabreak?

Seabreak supports projects within three main areas:

• Marine restoration: Stone reefs, biogenic reefs, eelgrass beds, coastal meadows, etc.
• Marine research: Species, ecosystems, and the consequences of human activity, etc.
• Communication about the sea: Exhibitions, educational materials, activities/events, equipment, facilities for exhibitions/teaching aimed at a broad audience, as well as reports, recommendations, articles, etc. targeted at decisionmakers.

A project involving marine restoration and/or research must generally include a communication component to be eligible for funding. A project based solely on communication can only receive support in special cases.

National and Local Projects

We primarily support local projects around Zealand and the islands, as well as projects with a national focus.

What Is Not Supported by seabreak?

• Projects focused on exploitation of the sea (e.g. fishing, aquaculture, seaweed farming)
• Clean‑up activities (e.g., ghost nets or other waste)
• Conferences
• Lobbying
• Development of methods and technology with a commercial focus
• Certifications
• Private companies, individuals, and foreign institutions

Allocation of seabreak Funds

Each year, seabreak allocates DKK 10 to 25 million, and projects may apply for DKK 2–10 million. We support both projects fully funded by Seabreak as well as cooperations where seabreak participates as an equal partner.

Our grants are distributed among restoration, research, and communication projects across various organizations and research institutions.

Who Can Receive Funding from seabreak?

Applicants must generally appear on SKAT’s list of approved associations or research institutions.

Project Preparation

Prior to any application, we encourage you to engage in dialogue with seabreak. We would like you to start by submitting a short project description, which will serve as a starting point for dialogue with clarifying questions and qualification of your project.

Short project descriptions can be submitted year-round, and we process them on an ongoing basis - usually within a month.

The application deadline is 1 October 2026.
